Of course, serialization had its price. With more versions, the community faced fragmentation, and users had to spend more effort choosing. But that did not diminish Qwen2's significance: it showed the world for the first time that "open models should be a whole family, not a few isolated points." This play was later imitated by countless vendors.

Looking back, Qwen2 was a key step on Chinese open models' road to global leadership. With one release it covered everything from toys to production, giving "Chinese open source" real heft for the first time.
